High School ProStart Students

The South Carolina Restaurant and Lodging Educational Foundation (SCRLEF) is proud to offer the ProStart® program to you through our partnership with the  the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF).  You are part of a program that reaches nearly 140,000 students in more than 1,800 high schools across all 50 states, the Territory of Guam and at Department of Defense Education Activity schools in Europe and the Pacific.

ProStart is a program for high school students that will give you the opportunity to learn about the art of cooking and managing restaurants by training with professional chefs and getting valuable classroom instruction. It’s also a way to earn college credit and make money while you’re in high school.

Talk with your teacher or counselor about taking the ProStart classes. These classes will teach you how to prepare and serve all different types of food as well as nutrition, marketing, and restaurant management. You will also learn about other exciting areas of the industry such as lodging, tourism, and retail. These classes take you beyond your typical course of study by teaching you real-world skills that you will use in your restaurant career.

From culinary techniques to management skills, ProStart’s industry-driven curriculum provides real-life experience opportunities and builds practical skills and a foundation that will last a lifetime.

How ProStart Works

By bringing together the industry and the classroom, ProStart gives students a platform to discover new interests and talents to open doors for fulfilling careers. It happens through a curriculum that includes all facets of the industry, and sets a high standard of excellence for students and the industry.

Students who receive the certificate are eligible for NRAEF scholarship opportunities and course credits at more than 75 of the country’s leading hospitality and culinary arts colleges and universities.
